Jesus Anoints Me, J.A.M., was founded in 2001 through the call that was placed on its founder, Rev. Kay Brown. Rev. Brown witnessed firsthand the trials that urban youth are burdened with in their daily lives while serving as the Activities Director of the Woodland Hills School District through the Hoots federal discrimination suit relief strategy. As a result of what she observed in this capacity, Ms. Brown was commissioned by the Lord to share a youth and young adult outreach ministry surpassing race, church denominations and most importantly community.
Through the anointing of God, the support of her Pastor, Rev. Victor J. Grigsby and the parents and youth of Central Baptist Church (CBC), J.A.M. became active. J.A.M. operated under the umbrella of the CBC’s Central New Development Corporation (CNDC) located in the Hill District. Working in conjunction with the CNDC in a fiduciary status as a 501 (c) 3 nonprofit, J.A.M. grew and provided outreach to the youth and young adults of the Pittsburgh, PA area. Envisioned to become a major youth ministry in the city, region and state J.A.M. supports the faith-based community with area church youth ministries and youth serving agencies. That vision has been upheld with operations provided through the devotion of five unpaid staff, a volunteer Advisory Board and many wonderful youth ministers and advisors.
Rev. Brown is a DeVos Urban Leadership Alumni, having completed the 15 - month training program in May of 2007. The DeVos Urban Leadership Initiative is based in Grand Rapids, Michigan. She incorporated working the principals of the DeVos Initiative into the J.A.M. ministry, training of JAM advisory board and volunteer leadership. Several of the volunteers and leadership of J.A.M. are now alumni of DeVos.
Incorporating the principals of DeVos resulted in a more successful and organized ministry in J.A.M. Both adult and youth leaders have embraced the DeVos methods of organization and ministry.
Rev. Brown serves as one of the Associate Pastors at Central Baptist Church. She and her husband, Dr. Ron Brown have been married 38 years. They have five beautiful daughters, nine wonderful grandchildren and one awesome great grandson.
